Mike Miller Joining LA Lakers?

A source close to Mike Miller has said that the Lakers have opened discussions with the current free agent.
Miller is currently without a team after a less than successful season team season with the Washington Wizards, even though Miller showed promise, and has some impressive statistics. Previously an NBA rookie of the year, Miller averaged just less than 11 points a game last season, and had an impressive 50% shot success rate when in the field, and 48% when shooting from down town.

The deal for Miller is nowhere near completion though; The Knicks have already held a meeting with the free agent on Thursday evening, and there is a significant factor with Millers wages. Miller earned an impressive 9.8 million dollars with the Wizards last season, a figure which it looks like the Lakers would not be able to match, because they are all ready well over the set figure for the luxury tax limit, which is a figure all teams want to avoid.

The Lakers look like they need to sign players and free agent Miller would be a terrific addition to the squad. The Lakers stand to lose Shannon Brown, Josh Powell, Jordan Farmar, D.J Mbenga and Adam Morrison, who are all rumoured to be leaving.

The Lakers have all ready stated the need to ‘big’ backup players, and they have selected two 6 foot 9 players Derrick Caracter and Devin Ebanks. However, the Lakers will still need to look for a backup point guard, and a few other backup players. Regardless of if the Lakers sign Miller or not, the Lakers have a lot of work to do before the beginning of the new season.
