McChrystal Rolling Stone Article : The Big Story

McChrystal

McChrystal Rolling Stone Article – The astonishing article in this issue of the Rolling Stone magazine would never have been published if it was not for the ever unpronounceable Eyjafjallajokull volcano.

Michael Hastings a reporter for the Rolling Stones magazine had a two-day period to spend with General Stanley McChrystal in Paris, however, due to the volcano this turned into a one month trip throughout Europe.

Mr Hastings who is a highly respected Journalist specializing on wars (mostly Iraq) seemingly used underhanded tactics to gain information that he later published in the magazine, information which a two-day report would have never uncovered.

This has left many including the president of the United States himself rather red in the face. A general of such high standing, who has been appointed by top officials at the Whitehouse, has let slip some information that should not even be shared with family or friends let alone a journalist of one of the most successful magazines in the USA.

McChrystal criticized members of the Obama team, and let his partners do so as well, even though McChrystal took all of the blame for any wrongdoing. Hastings followed McChrystal and his men from place to place holding a tape recorder, and extracting information. Previously Hastings has said that he has got high profile sources drunk and singing, on their expense account, and then would report back with the ‘sordid’ results.

Hastings has hardly been apologetic on the matter, and at just 30 years old some of his findings have surpassed what any top journalist would love to uncover in their lifetime. As Hastings has stated he respects writers “who live with integrity and without compromise”, clearly he is a man that stands by his believes.
